Scavenger Hunt – “Till I See a Sign” (audio) (premiere)

If you have a fondness for '80s pop, you'll want to hear Scavenger Hunt's "Till I See a Sign".

From the opening bars of their new single, you’d think Scavenger Hunt is an obscurity from an old John Hughes soundtrack. So immersed in the ’80s is this Los Angeles electropop band — think the Human League and Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark — that is comes as a genuine surprise that this music is from 2015. But there it is on Soundcloud, not on an old tape with Molly Ringwald on the cover. It’s remarkable, and something we think is worth hearing.

“This song was written quickly and pretty effortlessly, which seems to happen when we write straight from the heart,” the band tells PopMatters. “It’s a song about clinging to hope, even in the midst of doubt, failures and setbacks. It’s about listening to your heart and trusting your gut, which is usually not the easiest route.”

Scavenger Hunt’s new EP Wildfire is out today.
