The Revivalists – “Stand Up” (audio) (Premiere)

Funk and Fender Rhodes are out in full force in the latest single by the New Orleans outfit the Revivalists.

We’re big fans of NOLA music here at PopMatters, so it’s hardly surprising when we say that we’re excited to premiere the latest tune by the New Orleans funk/rock band the Revivalists, “Stand Up”. The tune, which features on the group’s forthcoming Men Against Mountains LP, is an all-out blast of aural fun and celebration, made up of equal parts Fender Rhodes and funky grooves.

Band member David Shaw says to PopMatters, “The chorus for ‘Stand Up’ was partly inspired by one of Dr. John’s performances at Jazz Fest. During one of his songs during his set he got up from the piano and broke it down on the dance floor! The people in crowd quickly followed suite and joined in the jubilee. Every mother, daughter, father and son followed the Doctor’s orders that day.”

Men Against Mountains is out on 17 July via Wind-Up Records.
