Tommy Keene – “Last of the Twilight Girls” (audio) (premiere)

The power-pop genius returns with a gem of a track from his 12th album.

His first album since 2013’s covers collection Excitement at Your Feet and his first album of original material since 2011, prolific power pop veteran Tommy Keene is back with a new full length called Laugh in the Dark. One of the standout tracks is the roaring “Last of the Twilight Girls”, which plays right into Keene’s wheelhouse: jangly pop music juxtaposed with robust garage rock. If you’re not familiar with Keene’s music, this will serve as a wonderful introduction. If you are, you’ll be grinning from ear to ear.

“The object of this number has made his/her proverbial bed and must now regrettably lie in it,” Keene says about the song. “Early reports have intimated that this tune is reminiscent of Big Star, true but I was probably more fixated on a Clarence White-era Byrds tune called ‘Tiffany Queen’.”

Laugh in the Dark Will be released 4 September on Second Motion Records.
