Nick Flora – “Take It From the Top” (video) (premiere)

The powerpop artist turns to his fans to make a wonderful collaborative video.

Nashville powerpop singer-songwriter Nick Flora is set to release his new album Futureboy in one month. As a great way to both drum up support and bring him closer to his fanbase he’s put together a great little collaborative video for the catchy tune “Take It From the Top” that features not only himself, but other fans around the world chipping in with their own lip-synch clips.

“When thinking of video concepts for the first single off off Futureboy, I thought a lot about what the song meant and how a video could enhance the meaning,” Flora says. “But then it hit me that since the project itself started as a community project, getting funded via kickstarter, that the video should have the same themes.

“The song ‘Take It From The Top’ is about starting over. It’s about that fear that you’re being left behind by having to begin again, and also the feeling that you’re alone in these fears. Nothing cures that fear more than having someone else empathize with you or respond with a simple “me too” when expressing loneliness.

“I have an amazing community of people who have supported my music either by pledging to kickstarter, coming out to venues when I’m coming thru on tour, or introducing their friends to my music, and I really wanted to make the first video feature them more than just me. So I sent out the song and asked if anyone wanted to lip-sync on video, I’d put it in a supercut video of others doing the same thing. The response was overwhelming, and I love how creative people got with it.

“I had musician friends from Nashville (Andrew Osenga, Jenny & Tyler, Eric Peters) submit along with fans from all over the US, Canada, and even Kenya. It really was a reminder to me that musicians should make their music as good as you can because you never know where it’s going to end up. This video not only takes the elements of community and fun that Futureboy has, but having dozens of strangers from around the globe singing (lip-syncing) ‘you’re not the only one who’s feeling lonely’ into camera, there’s something powerful in that.”

Futureboy will be released 22 September
