The Portland band breathe life into traditional American country on their new album.
Portland's the Lonesome Billies incorporate classic country and Southwestern themes much like the Sadies and Calexico, and you can hear it immediately on "1922", a selection from their upcoming debut album It's Good to Be Lonesome.
Produced by Brandon Eggleston (who's worked with Modest Mouse, Mountain Goats, and Swans in the past), the track combines atmosphere, the requisite old-timey twang, with a fun punk rock energy lurking underneath. Says guitarist Jeff Gaither, "'1922' recounts the true story of the fire that devastated America's oldest town west of the Rockies: Astoria, Oregon."
It's Good to Be Lonesome will be released 1 September.
