The Brooklyn band visit a legendary studio to perform a 1990s classic.
Brooklyn indie rock trio Dreamers put out their very good, and aptly named new EP E.P. early this year. Since then, though, they were afforded the opportunity to record in iconic Fairfax Recording Studio, formerly Sound City, where innumerable legendary albums were recorded. One of the tracks the band chose to play was Blind Melon's 1992 classic "No Rain"; only this time, they alter the song's mood significantly, with fascinating results.
"Recording in a place like sound city where so many classic albums were made is really inspiring," the band tells PopMatters. "You can feel the ghosts of great moments in the room; everything from Neil Young and Fleetwood Mac to Rage Against The Machine and Blind Melon. Blind Melon's song 'No Rain' sounds like such a happy jaunt but the lyrics are actually kind of existential and sad when yo listen to them. We decided to do our own take on it and capture some of that feeling."
