Jane Getter Premonition – “Surprised” (audio) (premiere)

Progressive rock guitarist and composer Jane Getter is preparing to release her new album On this fall, a lavish record featuring not only her own formidable talents but collaborations with a host of acclaimed musicians from the jazz and rock world. Among her collaborators is Living Colour singer Corey Glover, who turns in a superb vocal performance on the dreamy eight-minute composition “Surprised”.

“‘Surprised’ is based on the opening picking riff,” Getter tells PopMatters. “I came up with it one day when I was practicing and the song took off from there. Being a long-time fan of Living Colour, it was a real treat to have Corey Glover sing on this song (and the album!). His voice is the perfect combination of rock, R&B and gospel, and he brings the intensity and soulfulness to the song that I was hoping for.

“The lyrics came from my frustration and astonishment at how toxic the political arena is right now. I continue to be ‘surprised’ and amazed at how hypocritical and self-serving some politicians are.”
