Buckner & Garcia Feat. Jace Hall – “Pac-Man Fever (Eat ‘Em Up) 2015” (video) (premiere)

One of the great novelty songs of the 1980s has been revived 33 years later.

For those too young to remember, the Pac-Man craze of 1981 and 1982 was insane. It was the videogame version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, where an innocuous Japanese arcade game caught lightning in a bottle and connected with the zeitgeist in a massive, massive way. It was a major turning point for Gen-X pop culture, and along with it came every attempt imaginable to cash in on the game’s success.

The most memorable was the novelty single “Pac-Man Fever” by Akron, Ohio duo Jerry Buckner and Gary Garcia, which sold an unbelievable 1.2 million copies in 1982, and more than two million to date. 33 years later, to coincide with the July 24 release of the film Pixels, Buckner has created a new, updated version of the classic tune featuring a guest spot by film/game producer and personality Jace Hall. Most importantly, though, it also includes the original vocal track by Garcia, who passed away in 2011.

Watch the new lyric video for the track below. Though if you’re over the age of 40, you probably know the words by heart, so feel free to sing along while your kids look at you like you’re nuts.
