EG Vines' 'Family Business' Seeks to Find the Humanity in Others (album stream) (premiere)
Roots rocker EG Vines shares his new album, Family Business, which addresses how "we're still struggling to understand each other's humanity".
EG Vines is a cunning roots rock craftsman. Angled towards rock, Vines finds the raw potential for incorporation in many of the genre's subcategories. Throughout Family Business, his first full-length album as a solo artist, Vines uses elements of rock in many forms to craft his overarching sound. These range from Southern rock to progressive Americana and infectious pop-rock that recalls the early aughts, to gypsy-tinged psychedelia and beyond.
The eclectic nature of Vines' songwriting doesn't serve his vision wrong, however. Family Business comes together cohesively thanks to his savvy arrangements, all of which communicate themselves to a greater concept. As Vines recalls, "While I didn't set out to create a concept album, when I sift through the songs that made it onto Family Business, I think the record is about our country's awkward middle school years. We all have opinions and think we are grown, but ultimately we're still struggling to understand each other's humanity. The songs all reflect that struggle in one way or another."
Family Business is set to release on 11 October.
