Ironically, Ellison is signed to Carbon Copy Media, JT (Hawthorne Heights) Woodruff’s new imprint. It is not an exact copy of another act, but Ellison’s musical composite is an incredible simulation of many. Vocals are yelped while choruses come charging in at just the right moments. Heart-on-your-sleeve-ness allows girls to swoon and boys to reveal feminine sides. To say it with paint, exact replicas of masterpieces are sold at museum gift shops everywhere. But imitations are not any more valuable than prints of those dogs playing poker or street corner velvet Elvis portraits. Only Andy Warhol proved that imitation was more than just sincere flattery. True art always reflects its creator’s soul. Ellison, however, mirrors the consistency and efficiency of a dully repetitious Xerox machine.
