HXLT – “Together” feat. Kathleen Hanna (Singles Going Steady)

This could make for an amazing festival performance. #HLXT and #Rebelgirl2016 party ticket until Yeezy runs.

Morgan Y. Evans: This song is pretty much perfect. New Order rap with Le Tigre eclectic stamp of approval punk points. HXLT seems super interesting, has been grinding for awhile and hopefully lives up to the so far well deserved buzz from the Kanye boost. Kathleen Hanna is a downright American hero. This dude seems like he could be someday too. This could make for an amazing festival performance. #HLXT and #Rebelgirl2016 party ticket until Yeezy runs. [10/10]

Emmanuel Elone: It’s a decent song. This has a clear ’90s influence on it and takes a lot of cues from groups like Green Day and Rage Against the Machine. HXLT’s vocals are decent, but nothing to call home about. the instrumentation, though lively, is standard fare for this type of music. I do like Hanna’s appearance in the middle of the song; it was a good point to add something else into the mix to break up this track and prevent it from being completely one-dimensional. [5/10]

Magdalen Jenne: This song is a whole lot of energy and, seriousness notwithstanding, a whole lot of fun. The guitars even give the occasional jangle, and the Kathleen Hanna presence is limited and tasteful. [8/10]

Chad Miller: Sounds like something you’d hear in a cheesy Axe advertisement aimed at millennials. So naturally it’s pretty bad. It’s like they thought if they repeated “Together we can” enough times it would stick. [3/10]

HXLT‘s self-titled album releases February 26th via Getting Out Our Dreams, Inc. / Def Jam.
