Wolf Parade's Dante DeCaro takes a moment to explore his folksy side with Johnny and the Moon.
Surprise, surprise! It's another offshoot from a Canadian indie rock collective. This time it's Dante DeCaro, current member of Wolf Parade and former Hot Hot Heater, who has taken a break from his regular duties to explore his folksy side with Johnny and the Moon. Recorded in a week, their debut is a loose collection of shuffling acoustic guitars, banjos and harmonicas united by DeCaro's twangy vocals. The result is a record that sounds nothing like his other projects -- Johnny and the Moon is more likely to draw comparison to the ramshackle folk of fellows Canucks like the Deadly Snakes and the FemBots -- but does provide more than its fair share of worthy tunes.
