June: Make It Blur

Chicago natives turn down the power, but sweetly turn up the pop on their latest effort.

You would be hard pressed to find a band that puts the pop into power-pop any more than Chicago rockers June. And their latest release, Make It Blur only furthers that assumption. Songs like “No Time For Sense,” “Closer” and “I’d Lose Myself” are both irresistibly catchy and some of the hardest soft-rock anyone could find. But none of them hold a candle to the album’s best track, “Finally”. Here, June showcases the only true song deserving of being a pop-radio hit that, in a Spears-filled world, will sadly probably never even come close. Make It Blur might be one of the three best albums nobody will pay attention to this year. And that’s a shame, because having sprinkled synths, heartfelt words, sugar coated rock and enough power to prove that they aren’t Vertical Horizon, June’s latest effort undoubtedly deserves to be heard by millions.
