Lexi Todd's "Madonna" Is Her Feminist Autobiography (premiere)

Steeped in jazz-pop, neo-soul, and an empowering message, Lexi Todd's "Madonna" sees the Brooklyn artist securing her seat at the table.

Brooklyn's Lexi Todd first began to sing at the age of four and she's shown no signs of stopping ever since. An accomplished music attorney, Todd has used her studied wit to bring a sharp-shooting acuity to her lyricism and delivery whether it's been as a solo singer-songwriter or fronting the "gnar&b" band, Chevy Lopez. Diving between influences ranging between Amy Winehouse, Lake Street Dive, and Hiatus Koyote, she's carved a distinctive niche for art that is steeped in jazz-pop, neo-soul, and a world-conscious message.

Out 19 July, Todd's "Madonna" is her latest single as a solo artist. Spanning just over four minutes, she gives herself plenty of time to saunter into a nebulous groove, smoothly shifting her soulful delivery across a smoldering, jazz-infused backbeat. "Madonna" is an empowering, autobiographical song from Todd, featuring lyrics beside an impressive musicality that highlight the songwriter's intent to remain true to herself while tearing down industry standards and being taken seriously as a woman in music.

Those in New York City will be able to see Todd perform live at her birthday show on 25 July at Rockwood Music Hall. Tickets are available now.
