The fourth full-length from Matthew Peters is the phattest electronic hip-hop record Germany has ever known.
Matthew Peters (a.k.a. Mad EP) has outdone himself with his fourth full-length. Featuring added rhymes by Shadow Huntaz, Puppetmastaz, and Akila Da Hun as well as added production from Aaron Spectre and nu breaks guru Si Begg, Bass.Hed is the phattest, face ripping hip-hop record Germany has ever seen. The balance between huge, distorted bass, stuttering glitches, creepy synths, slick strings, ethereal ambiance, and MPC presets is a triple backflip off the beams and sticks the landing. Mad EP took four years to make this record, and the patience shows in the lagging reserve of each magnificent instrumental. It's a thoughtful, intricate mood piece destined to join gang-banging thug rappers and atmospheric trip-hop wallflowers. What's more, with "Pressure Cooker" in check, a few funky junglists are sure to crash the party as well. It comes off as righteous and breathtaking as the first time you experienced Aphex Twin, Machine Drum, Prefuse 73, Evol Intent, edIT, DJ Wally, and Star Wars. Not all at once, mind you. That would just be silly.
