This six-song EP is a kick ass one. It features Murdocks allowing themselves to nail some gritty, garage rock songs beginning with the strong “Playhouse Down”. Meanwhile, the band also shines on the tight, Fratellis-ish “Die Together” that doesn’t have as much punch or oomph as the aforementioned band but still is worth checking out. Murdocks also don’t push the envelope, leaving two-minute gems like “Spirit of 95” as is, not padding or fleshing them out in any way, shape or form. Probably the song that jumps out at you is the gorgeous, delectable power pop “Sleepy Queen & Charlie Brown”. But it’s difficult not to crack a smile when the band offers up the criminally sweet “Old Sylophone” which features a xylophone off in the distance.
