PURSES – “Hurricane” and “Wheels on the Run” (video) (premiere)

Athens, Georgia supergroup PURSES offer up an impressive introduction with "Wheels on the Run".

PURSES is comprised of Drew Beskin (District Attorneys, Party Dolls), Phillip Brantley (Modern Skirts), Mckendrick Bearden (Grand Vapids), Hunter Morris (Blue Blood, Gift Horse), Jeremy Wheatley (Crooked Fingers, Ruby the Rabbitfoot) and Frank Keith IV (Tedo Stone, The District Attorneys, Party Dolls, Ruby the Rabbitfoot). If you’ve been lucky enough to hear some of the new sounds emerging from the state of Georgia these days, from those bands in particular, you know that PURSES represents something of an Athens-area supergroup.

In advance of releasing their debut album Obsess Much on April 22nd, 2016 via Beskin’s own Laser Brains label, PURSES offer up a double single of “Hitchhiker/Wheels On the Run”. “Hitchhiker” kicks off with the kind of infectious drum beat that’s launched countless great rock songs before settling into an indie-pop wall of guitars instantly recognizable to fans of the fondly remembered District Attorneys. “Wheels on the Run” (which has its video premiere here) surrounds lyrics of isolation like “I’ve got a one-way ticket to the middle of the night” in catchy, ringing guitars and harmonies. As calling cards and introductions go, this one’s pretty impressive.
