Sara Rachele and the Skintights – “When You’ve Found It Out” (audio) (premiere)

“When You’ve Found It Out” is a wandering behemoth of a song, equal parts immense rocker and wispy pop specter. Sara Rachele’s coy, mirthful wail darts in and out of the dusty bass and jagged distortion of her Skintights bandmates, creating an effect both impactful and evanescent. It plays out like a mirage — quick and substanceless, but also impactful and resonant. When the final chorus thuds in with the force of a guillotine, you’ve got nothing left to do but to let the song’s raw power take its course.

“Everyone has secrets, everyone presents themselves in the best curated light – the way they want to be seen by others. The thing is, when the veil lifts, everything starts looking different,” says Rachele. “‘When You’ve Found It Out’ represents many times where my eyes have been opened to people’s true character, or the nature of the City, the nature of people, my experiences against life and moments where loved-ones have looked at me right in the face and lied — kicked me in the teeth, because they could, and the moments after, when I walk away from the conversation, down the street, back to my home, emotionally bruised but essentially unscathed, to my safety, my little studio jail cell in downtown Manhattan, scratched but still alive.”

Motel Fire comes out July 15 on Angrygal Records. Until then, stream “When You’ve Found It Out” below.
