Skybombers: Sirens

On this five-song EP, Aussie band Skybombers rely on the bar room brawn that fellow rock bands like Jet have utilized in the past. With all four members contributing vocals (but guitarists Hugh Gurney and Sam Bethune providing all the steak and sizzle) Skybombers start off with all cylinders running for “It Goes Off”, a song which recalls the Von Bondies and Burning Brides. The group rarely let off the pedal on this effort, as “6 P.M.” says a lot about Skybombers promising in just over two minutes. The only easy, run-of-the-mill song is the light and somewhat tired “So Come On” that is as much coaxing fans to enjoy it as it is the band trying to get through it. But that party, beer-keg atmosphere returns on “Revolution”, a punchy, swinging ditty that The Fratellis would be envious of. Short and sweet, Skybombers end with a bang during “Russian Roulette” that, hopefully, is a sign of things to come from this foursome from “Down Under”.
