Dear Readers,

For 27 years, PopMatters has been a rare site on the internet. We are an independent, intellectual, publication in pop culture criticism and have been dedicated as much to education as entertainment.

We really need your help so can continue publishing. Rising costs, collapsing ad revenue, changes to social media algorithms, and the rise of AI search have created serious revenue challenges for independent publishers like us.

We have launched subscriptions that offer NO ADSs or PAYWALLS with full access to our 27 years of articles.

Why PopMatters is worth supporting:

• We’ve been here since 1999 and are one of the longest-running culture websites still publishing. That longevity isn’t luck. It’s the product of genuine independence and uncompromising standards.

• We’re academically respected. Universities assign our articles in their courses, publishers seek them for anthologies, and our work is indexed in academic databases through ProQuest.

• We’re truly independent. Women and LGBTQ-owned, with no outside investors, no editorial overlords. Just a passionate team devoted to readers, not shareholders.

• We have global reach and high standards. Our contributors come from around the world, and an association with PopMatters carries real professional weight in cultural criticism.

• We publish for posterity. This isn’t content. Our essays and criticism have stood the test of time, and our archive proves it.
