Yannick Labbé and Daniel Becker (together as Berlin’s Trickski) have had the job of hosting Jazzanova’s Members of the Trick twelve-inch series for several years. In that time, Trickski have been bending some prominent ears to their discoveries and self-releases of European meets Detroit techno. This Members album is all the proof of their success they can muster. Gathering the best of the best of the vinyl series, many tracks are exclusive on CD to this release, and several are easily within the Kompakt echelon. Schmutzig De Mutzig’s “Thank You Daniel” elevates your typical four-four beat with a warping, growling lead and static infused percussion, with a hint of piano half way through. Trickski’s own “Paperbitch” is a moody chugger in line with the finer works of Mr. Oizo. However, three tracks suffer from incredibly banal club vocals about dancing and girls. Trust me, we’ve noticed the dancing and girls already. Just because you have a better view from the deejay booth doesn’t mean we’re all blind and stupid. If you need a song to specifically tell you to get the party started, you are not at a real party. Those aside, there is enough here to get a party going, but you’ll need a little more if you want to keep it burning.
