We Banjo 3

We Banjo 3 Remind Us of the “Gift of Life” With Rainbows and Kittens

We Banjo 3’s “Gift of Life” is mellow with a capital “M”. As the fan-generated video reveals, it suggests rainbows and kittens, which really works.

One of the reasons the Galway-based quarter We Banjo 3 have been successful during the past ten years is because their music appeals to a wide variety of audiences. Before COVID hit, their 2019 album Roots to Rise Live debuted at number one on Billboard’s Bluegrass Albums Chart, and their 2018 album Haven spent three weeks at number one. Comprised of two sets of brothers, Enda & Fergal Scahill and David & Martin Howley, We Banjo 3 played Americana and Irish music festivals and were a combo much in demand. They are known for both their jam-band aesthetics and disciplined playing.

There is something comforting about We Banjo 3’s music, especially on their most recent album (Open the Road), which features the recently released single, “Gift of Life”. The song is mellow with a capital “M”. As the fan-generated video reveals, it suggests rainbows and kittens. This might seem excessive, but the imagery works because the song itself is so sweet. We all intuitively understand the beauty in the ordinary if we just look at our world through an appreciative prism. We Banjo 3 offer a reminder of the everyday miracle around us. Life is beautiful may be a cliché, but as the song reminds us life is also a gift. It’s important to remember that.
