Weaves – “One More” (Singles Going Steady)

Fast, fun, full of energy, Toronto's Weaves bring a no-frills punk sensibility to the table.

Chris Ingalls: Fast, fun, full of energy, Toronto’s Weaves bring a no-frills punk sensibility to the table. Smart songwriting and a lot of loud guitars, things slow down in the bridge, just enough for the guys to catch their breath before they dive in all over again. It’s nothing you haven’t heard before, but still one hell of a ride. [7/10]

Emmanuel Elone: “One More” is a solid punk song, but not much else. The drums and guitar pack a punch, but it’s the same one that most ’90s punk acts already hit us with. Weaves’ vocals are good, but, like the instrumentation, lack originality. The same goes for the lyrics as well. “One More” is by no means a bad song, but it isn’t endearing or memorably in any way, shape or form. [4/10]

Chad Miller: Reminds me of Courtney Barnett, especially with the occasional deadpan delivery. The tune is a lot of fun, and the vocal performance is pretty cool as well. The song itself is kind of serious, but it’s also very silly in nature at the same time which is a neat contrast. [7/10]

Pryor Stroud: The hyper-kinetic, fuzz-pop of Weaves sounds like someone introduced the B-52’s to Ramones-era punk and they decided to turn up the feedback. The lyric is deranged, running out of a padded-wall asylum that’s burning down behind it, and the frenzied, implosive, screeching-to-the-rafters guitar only further heightens the track’s prevailing psychopathy. [5/10]

Weaves’ self-titled debut album releases out June 17th via Kanine (US), Buzz (CAN) & Memphis Industries (rest of the world).
