Yarn – “Now You’re Gone” (audio) (premiere)

Yarn offers up a great Americana song with killer riffs as they ruminate on the end of relationships.

Americana band Yarn has gone through a lot of changes over the last little while, including relocating from Brooklyn to North Carolina and having relationships end. Blake Christiana explains, “We were dealing with real life issues. Broken relationships, a sense of having to regroup and put some things — and people — behind us. The new songs became kind of a catharsis. Nothing was contrived. We didn’t have to relate to it in the third person. We were living these circumstances, and that gave us the impetus and inspiration to share our sentiments. Ultimately those setbacks and difficulties led to new opportunities and allowed a little light to shine through.”

Changes like these almost always lead to creative inspiration and that’s exactly what we get with Yarn‘s new album, This Is the Year, which releases May 27th. The new single “Now You’re Gone” is all about the fallout from a failed relationship, from anger to acceptance, from bitterness to moving on. It’s a barnstormer of a tune with all the hallmarks of a great Americana song, from heartfelt vocals and illustrative lyrics to superlative musicianship and rocking guitars. It’s also quite the earworm. Christiana adds, “We all have toxic people in our lives, people that make life harder and less fun and less happy. When we finally cut those ties, it’s a very beautiful thing. This one goes out to all those people. There’s something about writing a song like this that’s very therapeutic, it relieves the stress of a somewhat tumultuous situation without any actual violence taking place. And everyone gets to stay out of jail that way too.”
