Young Galaxy – “Ready to Shine” (Singles Going Steady)

"Ready to Shine", huh? So shine already.

Timothy Gabriele: I’m a sucker for some indie pop MOR. This one’s got just the slightest glint of twee in its plinky chorus that makes it a hair shy of precious, but it’s bouncy and catchy enough to forgive this. “Ready to Shine” is a bit of a misnomer. This track doesn’t belong 20 feet away from the back porch and the wine coolers, but situated there safely guarded from youthful energy or the righteous violence against a cruel and hurtful world it’ll do just fine in the lowlight. [6/10]

Dustin Ragucos: Young Galaxy have a fair grasp of how to make a good verse. Some listeners might even believe that they can handle a ballad. However, chorus-wise, this song brings back the idea of sounding like a broken record. [3/10]

Eric Risch: To offset the exchange rate between US and Canadian currency, Montreal synth-pop quintet charge additional credits to view their video for “Ready to Shine”. Featuring rudimentary animation designed by myriad computer programmers in the ’80s, one could project the video on a club wall and let the anthemic third single from the band’s forthcoming Falsework move you. Once stepping out from the neon

interior into the darkness of night, “Ready to Shine” will be summarily forgotten. [6/10]

John Garratt: I recently went bowling with my daughters. The music videos that kept playing on the various flatscreens in the alley that night brought a new trend to my attention: videos where nothing happens. And I gotta hand it to whoever put this video together, they matched sound and action perfectly. “Ready to Shine”, huh? So shine already. [4/10]
