Blindman – “Feels Good” (audio) (premiere)

Combining jam rock, reggae, hip hop, folk, and jazz, Blindman‘s music is friendly and inclusive, something you hear immediately on “Feels Good”, the New Jersey singer-songwriter’s vibrant new single. And as it turns out, there’s a sweet little story behind the genesis of the song.

“’Feels Good’ is a love song filled with hope and power,” he tells PopMatters. “When I visited my grandfather on his deathbed, he was full of pain, not able to move, and not able to speak. I wanted to let him know how much I knew he loved me. I wanted to let him know all that he did for me growing up mattered and impacted my life. I wanted him to feel good and have peace knowing he loved well. So I thought I would play him a song because although he couldn’t talk, I know he could hear me. His eyes, filled with pain, communicated desperation to me. I needed to find a way to break through to him and take him to a better place. The problem was I didn’t have a song that matched that feeling. So I just put my hands on my keyboard and starting singing and freestyling what is now the chorus to the song. It just came naturally and organically. I like to think it was divine intervention. I sang the song with power and I know he heard me. I know he felt good, knowing how much I felt his love for me. That type of pure, divine love doesn’t come around often. So when we feel it, we’ve gotta sing it loud and rejoice!”
