River City rock juggernaut Worn in Red drink deeply from the well that is Richmond DIY, adding a little more of a late-period Small Brown Bike/Hot Water Music vibe to the proceedings than the average band and coming out ahead of the game for it. Banshees is record number two for the quartet, coming once again courtesy of the loveable nerds at No Idea and cut from the same faded black of its predecessor. Like Sleepytime Trio or 400 Years before them, the gents yell a fair bit, aided and abetted by a pummeling rhythm section and grating guitar(s), but never shying away from a breakdown if it catches their fancy.Banshees fires on all cylinders, starting strong with “The Road”, and hitting a strong stride midway with “I Get It Now” and “White Heavens, Dark Daydreams”. Safe money is on a lot of canned beers being hoisted skyward to the tracks here. Hardly the discordant force of its namesake, Banshees is more of a siren that will have you happily crashing on its rocky shores.
