The Visit – “Through Darkness” (audio) (premiere)

Chamber, Middle Eastern, and metal influences inform this beautiful new track by the minimalist Canadian duo.

Combining the ornate beauty of chamber music, the intricacy of Persian music, and the force of heavy metal, Canadian duo the Visit will be releasing the stunningly beautiful new album Through Darkness Into Light on 9 October. It’s all about the interplay of virtuosic cellist Raphael Weinroth-Browne and vocalist Heather Sita Black, and as you hear on the epic composition “Through Darkness”, the two show spellbinding chemistry.

“It seamlessly incorporates all of the musical elements used throughout the album,” the pair says about the track. “The piece opens with haunting harmonics before erupting into a rapid succession of galloping cello riffs. The voice acts as both a soaring melodic instrument as well as the narrator of a dark tale of struggle, and finally, of transcendence. After an introspective verse in the middle section of the track, an ascending cello cadenza leads into an epic closing section, one that is both crushingly heavy and boldly triumphant.”

Through Darkness Into Light can be pre-ordered here.
